Hi, I like your idea of a planest visible from earth, here is how I would execute it: As the telesope is huge mechanism, make it bigger a center piece of an image, but not in meddle of a composition I have olso overlapped telescope with the planet to show the connection. I have pushed planet more behind atmospheric perspective. To show scale add some trees for example, to guide vewer introduce road as elements leading eyes to the focal point of the image. As the end note if you are in doubt, do some research, gather a references to fill in a gaps in your visual library.
